College Visits

A personal visit to a prospective college or university is the best way to learn if it is a good fit for a student, and our counselors encourage students to explore multiple opportunities and learn as much as possible about potential college choices.

Students are allowed four days to visit colleges with their parents during their high school career to help in their college selection process. If these visits are arranged through the guidance counselor, they will not be counted against the student’s ten days allowed for absences. However, if the college visit is not arranged through the counselor, the days will count against the ten allowed absences. Please remember to contact the school and inform the office of the absence for the college visit.

To arrange a college visit in advance, contact the Guidance Office at (712) 732-4166.

Admission representatives from area colleges and universities periodically visit St. Mary’s to meet students and answer questions.
